Superintendent Andrew Fisher has been a police officer in Merseyside for 29 years. Andrew has a mixture of operational and departmental experience and currently heads the Citizen Focus Department. This is a relatively new Department that is seeking to improve levels of satisfaction and confidence in the service provided by Merseyside Police. Since leading the Department the team have won three prestigious national awards. Andrew is a firearms incident commander and has been involved in policing a number of major events in Merseyside. Andrew gained a first class BSc honours degree in police leadership and management 2008 and is currently studying part time for a doctorate in policing, security and community safety at London Metropolitan University. In his spare time Andrew is a keen cyclist and likes to go to rock concerts.
The presentations delivered by Superintendent Fisher will firstly examine counter terrorism in the United Kingdom. This presentation will conduct an in depth analysis of case studies of those who have converted to Islam and become extremist and extremists who have always been followers of Islam and have caused atrocities in the UK. The current UK counter terrorist strategy will then be explored. The second presentation will examine leadership in the police service. It will look at various leadership styles, their impact and when they are appropriate. The presentation will also examine the link between a leader and a follower and how this can be used to improve relationships and performance. The final presentation will take a satirical look at policing through the eyes of the media. |
